Helping Lucie See a Brighter Future

Meet Gus and Lucie, two peas in a pod! Lucie had issues with her eyes from an early age. It began with cherry eye and then she developed entropion. Undergoing many entropion surgeries and trying different prescriptions at her regular vet, she continued to worsen.

After staying at a boarding facility, she returned to her owners with cloudy eyes, resulting in both of her eyes being ulcerated and perforated open.

It was then that she was taken to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center's ophthalmology department. It was determined that she was completely blind and the owners made the difficult decision to remove both of her eyes to avoid further damage or infection.

"The doctors were truly so compassionate during that emotionally difficult time. They did the surgery and sent us home with plenty of post-op medications and instructions. Every time we have brought our dogs to OSU, everything has been fantastic."

Lucie's owners say that her blindness hasn't slowed her down one bit! She is confident in how she walks and interacts with others. The way that she bounced back and adapted to the new challenge so quickly makes her an incredible story of resilience.
