Margherita's Rare Diagnosis and Remarkable Recovery
Margherita (Rita) and her three littermates were rescued together by Oakland TNR Coalition, but Rita was different. While her siblings weighed a healthy 3–4 pounds, she was just 1 pound at three months old. She had trouble keeping food down, often vomiting after eating, which explained her small size.
After several vet visits, Rita was diagnosed with Persistent Right Aortic Arch (PRAA), a rare heart condition that required life-saving surgery. But first, she needed to put on weight. Thanks to her devoted foster family patiently spoon-fed her a liquid diet, she grew stronger and underwent surgery performed by the cardiology team at The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. Today, she is thriving and eating wet and dry food on her own.
"We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding care she received from your veterinary team. Without a doubt, you are among the best in the country."
