Caring. Down to a science.

Usually, when people think about the meaning of “caring”, they think about displaying kindness and concern for others; looking after those who are unable to care for themselves. At The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center family of hospitals, it means all that and more.

Teamwork proves successful for rare equine dental surgery

In March 2023, members of the VMC’s Galbreath Equine Center surgical team removed a large mass from the lower jaw of an 8-year-old draft cross gelding. The procedure – a first of its kind at Ohio State – highlighted a successful collaboration among our VMC surgeons, our local equine dental specialist partner, and equine dental surgeons from Kentucky.

Neurosurgical technique addresses dog’s herniated disc

Toby, a 6-year-old Weimaraner, presented to the VMC as an emergency referral with the inability to walk on all four legs. An MRI performed on Toby at the VMC revealed a large intervertebral disc herniation in the cervical spine, requiring surgical removal. The surgery went well and Toby recovered quickly, walking the day after surgery. He was discharged two days after surgery and continues to recover at home.
